  • A complete body workout
  • Develop your core strength
  • Tone your muscles and elongate your spine
  • Increase flexibility where you need it most
  • Find your own body awareness
  • Improve posture and balance
Efficient movements teach your body to support itself. Pilates restores your body to its original patterns of efficient, integrated movements.

All movements originate from the inside out. You learn to work the deep musculature of the body to stabilize and support your spine.

The Pilates method of training is taught in a number of exercises on a mat and spring-loaded equipment. Each exercise challenges the entire body through the practice of centering, concentration, precision, alignment and flow, all coordinated with the breath.

The results are immediate. You will notice your posture improves, you feel more energized and you sense your body supported by its own core strength.

A Body of Work
Pilates can be used to prevent or recover from an injury

Pilates is an effective method for addressing a variety of musculoskeletal challenges and imbalances. It is widely recommended by physicians, physical therapists, chiropractors, massage therapists, and acupuncturists as the safest and most effective way to strengthen muscles necessary to support the spine, hips, shoulders, knees and ankles.

A Body Of Work will work closely with your physician or referring practitioner to create a program that helps you fully recover from an injury, at your own pace.

A Body of Work
Created by Joseph Pilates in the late 1920s

Joseph Pilates combined his knowledge of anatomy and body mechanics with his expertise in diving, gymnastics, martial arts, skiing, and boxing to help rehabilitate injured prisoners of war while interned in England during World War I.

He later moved to the United States, met his wife and partner Clara, and opened a popular studio in New York City. His students and clients included famous dancers, choreographers, athletes and performers. He worked with luminaries such as Martha Graham, George Balanchine, Ted Shawn, Ruth St. Dennis, Hanya Holm, Sir Lawrence Olivier, Vivien Leigh, and Katherine Hepburn.

Joseph Pilates created a total body discipline he called “Controlology” that has gone on to become an important element in professional sports training and physical rehabilitation.
